Jail for lout found hiding in a cupboard

Brute had gone to girlfriend’s house despite ban

- Ron Moore

A chancer who brazenly flouted a court ban on seeing his girlfriend has been jailed for nine months.

Dean Teaney, 25, was found hiding in a cupboard at Natanya Feeley’s flat despite being slapped with a Non Harassment Order preventing him from contacting or approaching her for three years.

Yesterday, Paisley Sheriff Court heard Teaney was nabbed by the cops following complaints of a rammy at Ms Feeley’s home in the town’s Seedhill area.

Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said: “At around 11pm on August 17 police received a report of a disturbance coming from the locus where load male and female voices were heard coming from within the house.

“Police attended. They were allowed access by the witness Feeley. When officers entered the house, bottles of alcohol were lying on the floor.

“Officers took Ms Feeley’s details and conducted a search of the house.

“On opening a cupboard in the living room officers found the accused.

“He gave officers the name James McLellan.

“But Ms Feeley answered his name was Dean Teaney, which the accused then accepted, he was arrested.

“He was cautioned and charged, he made no reply. He was taken to Greenock Police Station.”

Teaney, currently on remand at HMP Low Moss, appeared from custody at court where he pleaded guilty to breaking the terms of a Non Harassment Order in respect of Ms Feeley, requiring he doesn’t approach or contact her.

His defence agent Rhona Lynch said: “He is a 24-year-old man who has been in custody since his first appearance at court in relation to this matter.

“It involves Ms Feeley. She is present in court. They have a child together aged 18 months.

“Ms Feeley says she invited the accused to come to her house.

“He accepts he should not have accepted her invitation.

“However, she did not want the NHO to be put in place and did not wish to be separated from Mr Teaney.”

The lawyer added that Teaney’s previous brushes with the law involving Ms Feeley stemmed from him drinking too much.

She said his mother died from alcohol abuse when he was still a youngster, and he had developed a similar addiction problem.

Mrs Lynch urged the court to consider a community based disposal and added she was setting out to the challenge the NHO on behalf of the accused.

However, Sheri f f Tom McCartney took a dim view of Teaney’s conduct.

He said: “This was a breach of an NHO, an order made by the court.

“And this offence was committed while you were released early from a prison sentence relating to something for which the order was made.

“You have seven previous convictions for failing to comply with bail conditions and breaches of other orders.

“There is no realistic option of dealing with this matter other than a sentence of imprisonment being imposed.”
