Ladies who just want to have fun

-

It was an evening of laughter and thought- provoking ideas at the latest meeting of Renfrew Ladies’ Speakers Club, which was on this occasion led by chairman Mary Phillips.

Jess Cross reminded everyone of the full jar. After filling a tall jar with golf balls, there was space for pebbles, then sand, and finally, space for two cups of coffee.

All represented the big things and small things of life, Mrs Cross told the meeting.

There were golfing stories from Margaret Cowie, and tales of multi-storey flats from Norma Murray, introduced by the Jeely Piece Song.

A dramatic story was recounted by Marion Henderson that left everyone wondering if she really almost drowned.

Myra Hunter began her tale with owls living in tall trees, moving on to Brown Owl and Tawny Owl leading the Brownies.

There were evaluations from Sheina Ross, Cate Donaldson, Irene Thom and Dorothy Hamilton.

The visiting speaker was Graham McLachlan, who is a past national president of the Association of Speakers’ Clubs.

He spoke about the new proposals for change within ASC.

A lively question time followed.

Taking part in Renfrew Ladies’ Speakers Club is guaranteed to build confidence, say its members, who always welcome visitors.

It meets fortnightly at the Glynhill Hotel, Renfrew.

The meeting is on Thursday, November 1.
