Luke’s laying down the law

Police go the extra mile for youngster

- David Campbell

A cop- loving youngster got a massive surprise during a special tour of Johnstone Police Station.

Luke Kennedy thought he just going for a little look around but his eyes lit up after realising officers had pulled out all the stops.

Two horses from the mounted branch, Kilmarnock and Lanark, popped along, as did Peggy Sue the 13-week-old police dog and trainer and her handler.

But that wasn’t all. The 11-year-old Linwood lad got to try out a speed gun and jumped behind the wheel of a squad car.

Earlier this year, police-obsessed boy wrote a letter to local cops, who showed up for visit.

Inspector Cassie Glass, from the community policing team based in Johnstone, invited Luke and his mum and dad along to the station for the day.

She said: “It was lovely to see his eyes light up when he saw the horses and police dog.

“He had really good time and we really enjoyed having him in. He tried the speed gun and even got to breathalyse his dad.

“It shows the good side of policing. We are about helping the community and building links and this was a good example of that.”
