Clarke: Saints made it tough work
Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke insists his side were forced to up the gears after being pinned back by St Mirren.
Clarke, a former Saints defender, admitted he had been left impressed by the Saints first-half performance upon his first return to the club since leaving over three decades ago.
Second- half strikes from Alan Power and Aaron Tshibola were enough for Killie to fight back from Adam Hammill’s opener.
And Clarke revealed that he asked for his players to improve their performance having been disappointed with how his players had started the match.
Clarke said: “St Mirren were really good in the first half. They got about us and disrupted our rhythm and stopped us doing what we are good at.
“We had a chat at half-time and put things right and in the second half you saw the true Kilmarnock.
“It is a bad habit that we need to get rid of.
“We showed some good character to come back again.
“I said to the players it is difficult to win four games in a row in this league but we have done that.
“We have to keep our feet on the ground and keep working hard. We have a tough game against Hamilton next.”
