Clan leave it too late to put out Blaze

- Ice hockey

Clan head coach Pete Russell admits he expected better from his side after they fell to defeat at the hands of Coventry Blaze.

The Braehead side were unable to make it back-toback wins over the weekend having seen off the threat of Nottingham Panthers the previous evening.

But Russell offered no excuses for his players after a third period fightback proved to be too little too late for his men.

He said: “I didn’t think we were great and I don’t think our appliance was good at times.

“I’m not being negative but to come out in the last period to push the pace like we did in the last period, I just wish we had done that earlier.

“I think they just outbattled us. We didn’t compete in the second period, every one-onone battle became a two-onone, and I thought Coventry won the battles and got the rewards for that.

“In the third period we hardly lost a battle and we looked a different team. It was just too late.

“We have to learn to keep the energy and the mental side up.

“We have had some great results over the past week and hats off to the guys but expectations raise, and my expectation was more than that especially at home.

“Every single night is going to be tight margins and every single night you have to keep going.

“I just felt that maybe we would have some regrets from the game,

“I know as a group that we have more than that.”
