Kearney: We must up our game

-

St Mirren manager Oran Kearney has pinpointed Saints’ game management as something they have to improve.

Kearney was happy with the side’s first-half display against Kilmarnock on Saturday, but he admits they let the game get away in the second-half.

He said: “It is very hard. At Premiership level in any country there are very few teams that dominate a game for 90 minutes.

“The one thing I don’t know we will ever get to is an ability to absolutely boss a game at this level for 90 minutes.

“Yes, we recognise that there will be moments like Saturday where we are on top. But you also have to recognise that there are moments when the other team will have their say and it is about how you manage that.

“The game management aspect of the game on Saturday is the most disappointing one.”

And Kearney conceded that the Buddies struggled to deal with the injury to Anton Ferdinand, which saw the defender subbed at half-time.

He added: “His groin was giving him a bit of trouble but we are hoping it won’t be anything too serious at this moment in time.

“With the changes that had to be made with him coming off, it was difficult.

“He has been a good influence and a calming influence during his time with the club.”
