Knitting group membership is all stitched up

-

A knitting group has proved so popular that it can no longer take new members.

But the members of Laugh‘n’Craft hate to turn people away and are therefore aiming to set up a list of similar groups in the area that they can refer people to.

One of the organisers of the group, which meets at Paisley’s YMCA on Tuesday mornings, is Linda McQueen.

She said:“We’re full, but we don’t like to turn people away.

“So if there were other groups, then we could try and compile a list of the groups in this area, particularly if they are looking for new members.”

There are currently 18 members of Laugh‘n’Craft, and every week the group is very well attended.

Linda said:“We’ve got 18 names, and average 14, 15, 16, sometimes 18 a week.

“Once in three years we’ve had 11, so it’s always well attended and we really can’t take any more.”

There are four names on Laugh‘n’Craft’s waiting list at the moment and it is unlikely they will be given a place on the group soon.

And that is how the idea for the knitting group list came up.“We definitely don’t like to turn people away, and knitting and crafts are such a great thing to do,” Linda said. “Knitting’s very good for stress, it’s a social thing.

“We do a lot of work for charity as well, and we always donate money too.

“We’d really like to compile a list of all the knitting and sewing groups in the area and if they want to contact me, then I’ll compile a list and send it out to everyone.”

Any knitting, sewing or craft groups that would like to be part of the list are invited to contact Linda on 07867 845211.
