A new helping hand for those in need

-

An organisation that reaches out to those struggling to make ends meet has been officially launched.

As revealed in the Paisley Daily Express, A Helping Hand Paisley is to set up a weekly soup kitchen in the town centre that, as well as serving up hot food, will offer clothing, bedding, shoes and toiletries, among other things.

A donation day held at Paisley Abbey at the weekend, brought in a whole load of items ranging from foodstuffs to sanitary products – all donated by people who want to help others.

One of the organisers of the group is Vic Young, 47, who regularly attends the abbey.

And he said the donation day was a big success. “It went very well,”he said. “We got at least two car-loads of donations.”

This will be added to those the not-for-profit organisation has already received, partly with the help of its Facebook page, which has been followed by 2,000 people so far.

The next step for A Helping Hand Paisley is to set up its first soup kitchen in Paisley High Street on Tuesday, November 13, at 8pm.

It will be held in the doorways of both Bargain Buys and Marks & Spencer. Anyone who needs help can turn up for some hot food.

They will also have the chance to get some of the donated items they may need.

Vic said:“We’re hoping to run this every week but I don’t know how ambitious that is going to be.

“As an organisation ,we are just trying to find our feet. We are learning quickly, so every week is what we’re aiming for.”

Money can be donated at www. gofundme.com/a-helping- hand- paisley

You can also arrange to make a donation of items by emailing ahelpinghandpaisley@outlook. com and the organisation can also be found on Facebook.
