We can’t take our foot off the gas

Sinclair wants more goals

- Craig Ritchie

Ar t h u r l i e b o s s Duncan Sinclair insists the pressure is on his side to cont i n u e their winning form.

The Barrhead side face a welcome break from league action this afternoon as they prepare to play host to East Region side, Dundee Violet in the Scottish Cup.

Despite hitting a good run of form, Sinclair is adamant that he expects even better from his players as the weeks go on.

Sinclair told Express Sport : “We might be playing well but you can always be better.

“We won 5- 1 last weekend but I think we should have won by at least another few goals. Is that greedy? It probably is but I don’t care. I think we have got to be better because there can always been room for improvement.

“I don’t know too much about Dundee so I phoned Maryhill boss Allan Kelly to try and kind out a little bit more about them. They knocked Maryhill out in the last round so any extra information is obviously a bonus.

“The East Region sides seem to be doing very well in the Scottish Cup in recent years so we will have to be wary. But it is all about keeping the home form going. We have managed to turn Dunterlie into a fortress in recent weeks and long may that continue.”

One man who has hit top form in recent weeks is experienced striker James Marks.

The former Largs Thistle forward has hit the goal trail for ‘ Lie but Sinclair insists Marks offers much more than just finding the back of the net.

He added: “James brings pure professionalism and experience to what is essentially a really young dressing room.

“He is a good guy but he isn’t afraid to speak his mind. That’s not a bad thing and sometimes the things that he says are better coming from a player than the coaching staff.

“James, and the likes of Andy Barrowman, have been a massive help to the coaching staff in what has been a hard summer.

“They have helped integrate every body in to the club and they deserve credit for that.” Colin Clark has called on his Renfrew side to mount a Scottish Cup run as they put their league struggles to one side.

New Western Park this afternoon plays host to‘Frew’s clash against East Region side Fauldhouse, with the hosts keen to build upon their four-match unbeaten run.

But despite an upturn in fortunes, Renfrew still prop up the Premiership following a difficult start to the season.

Clark will call upon new signing Reece McGilligon, while Ross Gallacher is the only player to miss out.

Clark told Express Sport:“You want to do well in the cup competitions – just like you do in the league – but it isn’t a distraction by any means.

“It doesn’t matter what tournament it is, you just want to do well.

“Our league form has been okay recently and it is about keeping that improvement going so that we can then carry that into next weekend.

“We have had Fauldhouse watched and they have a number of players that we are aware of, so we are under no illusions that it could be a difficult game.

“But we are four without defeat now, and although we are bottom of the league, we are making small steps in the right direction.”
