We’ll miss Niall, admits boss

-

Johnstone Burgh boss Jamie McKim admits the absence of vice-captain Niall Herron will be a major blow – before tipping the youngster for the very top.

The 19- year- old centre back is suspended for today’s visit of Newmains United to Keanie Park following his sending off against Lanark United last weekend.

A controversial call, McKim still insists that he should never have received his marching orders in the first place.

But with a game to prepare for this afternoon, he grudgingly concedes that he will have to deal with it when it comes to naming his side.

A summer addition from Paisley amateur side Glenvale, Herron has been something of an ever-present for the Burgh.

And McKim reckons the only way is up as he continues to be impressed by his development.

McKim told Express Sport: “We are going to miss Niall, he has been such a big player for us this season so having him suspended is a huge blow.

“He has been massive for us all year. How many players his age at any level can say they are vice captain of a junior team?

“He plays a big role for us both on and off the park and that is telling because even the older, more experienced guys look to him.

“He played with me when I was managing Glenvale, but he was with St Peter’s all his days.

“For me, I would love to see him continuing to progress with Johnstone Burgh for the next few seasons. But I think he really has the potential to play at the top level of junior football, or even make the move to senior football.

“He has great potential and it is up to him where he sees himself. He has all the attributes to be a fantastic player.”

One man who will be available for Burgh this afternoon is goalkeeper Gavin Wallace, who missed out last weekend.
