THROW AWAY

-

managed to carve space for himself on the edge of the box following a tidy turn from Adam Hammill, but the on-loan Manchester United man just couldn’t keep his effort down against his former side.

But the second half looked as though it belonged to the hosts and they capitalised on some slack defending to allow David Wotherspoon to fire home at the far post.

Hodson allowed Drey Wright too much time to swing over a cross, and although Watt fresh- aired an overhead kick, Wotherspoon lashed it home on the hour.

In fine St Mirren fashion, they appeared to then shoot themselves in the foot straight after the goal as Paul McGinn gave referee Dallas no option but to point to the spot for a barge in the back of Murray Davidson.

But true to form, Samson produced another penalty save to block from Watt and give Saints a fighting chance in the last half an hour.

However, St Johnstone were handed another penalty in 73 minutes when Hodson clumsily brought down Drey Wright.

This time Saints skipper Liam Craig took the honours but sensationally blasted over the crossbar to give the Buddies yet another chance to take something from the game.

But even then St Mirren couldn’t capitalise on their own good fortune as the hosts wrapped up the points with just seven minutes to go.

Samson again produced a stunning save, this time from a Kerr header but Kennedy was on hand to race in and tap home the rebound from close range.
