Salute to the beautiful game It didn’t go all our way: Wright

-

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright blasted referee Andrew Dallas, insisting St Mirren’s Matty Willock should have been sent off.

Willock was penalised for a foul on Murray Davidson in the first half after the two challenged for a header in midfield, which resulted in the midfielder having to receive treatment.

However, Willock wasn’t even booked for a foul, despite Wright claiming it could have even warranted a red.

Wright said: “St Mirren will probably point to the fact that they think they should have had a penalty in the first half.

“But how Matty Willock stayed on the pitch after his assault on Murray Davidson is beyond me. He never even got booked.

“They might say that the refereeing decisions didn’t help them, but we could also point to that and say it hasn’t helped us.”

But Wright could have no complaints over the scoreline, and was delighted by his team’s display.

He added: “I thought we were outstanding, particularly in the second half. We started the game well too. If we had come away winning five or six nil, then they would have had no complaints.

“We had two penalty misses. Craig Samson probably produced the save of the season from Tony Watt, and we missed a few chances as well.

“I’m pleased with the performance and the result.”
