On the trail of ghosts

Spookbuster is not surprised at level of eerie activity reported

- Chris Taylor

Ghost hunters have been chasing down the things that go bump in the night.

Spook chasers reported frightening visions – including spectral children, eerie laughing and flying saucers.

Buildings rumoured to be haunted include ancient Paisley Abbey, Renfrew Victory Baths and the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

John Cruickshank, a buster with Capital Paranormal Investigations, insists spirits can become trapped between worlds.

He said: “The dead can become rooted to the mortal dimension if they have unfinished business.

“It doesn’t surprise me to hear that buildings steeped with such history have had reports of activity.

“There’s been talk of whispering in empty rooms and footsteps on stairs.

“Others have reported the air suddenly turning cold around them.

“Many believe the ghosts found around Renfrewshire are returning to the spot where the person died.”

Spooky episodes have been reported the length and breadth of Renfrewshire.

One spotter claims a woman stalks the corridors of a cottage in the region’s rural hills.

A spectre of an old lady was seen climbing stairs but she could not be found.

Some staff have also reported unexplained phenomena at the RAH.

They insist footsteps can be heard in a loft – even though it is padlocked shut.

A phantom dragging a body bag and beds moved across rooms have also been reported.

Renfrew Victory Baths are reputedly haunted by two ghosts.

Swimmers say they have seen a young boy with a broken neck and a woman dressed in white there.

A ghostly monk has been spied at Paisley Abbey, while a ghoulish horseman is said to ride the hills near the remains of Ellison Castle, in Lochwinnoch.

The Paranormal Database records the events and contains reports of nearly 16,000 paranormal events across Britain and Ireland.

Spook hunters record the location, the time and other details of what was seen.

Sightings include strange creatures, sea monsters and cursed objects that cause misfortune if moved from the buildings housing them.

Events range from as far back as the ninth century to the present day.

Among them are 306 UFO sightings, 183 dragons and 33 vampires.

A resident reported an unusual light in the sky in Lochwinnoch last year.

It hovered above the clouds before zooming off.

John added: “Ghosts can be scary but it is very rare to get a glimpse of one.

“The important thing to remember is that there is probably a perfectly logical explanation for all of these events.

“Stay safe out there and have a happy Halloween.”
