It’s close at the top – and it’s tough at the bottom Divisions throw up some exciting clashes with just five games played

- Craig Ritchie

With five league games played, the top teams in both Renfreshire darts divisions remain undefeated – but for some other teams it already looks like a long season.

In the First Division, Hagg Bar A remain at the top after their fourth 9-0 victory of the season with this one coming in an away game at Fereneze.

The result also cost the Fereneze team two league places as they drop into sixth equal position along with Cafuffals, who had no game this week.

Sharing points with the Hagg Bar team are St Peter’s, also undefeated but in second place due to leg difference, after a 5-4 win at Charleston Arms.

Staying in third place and two points behind the leaders are Court Bar after an impressive 6- 3 away victory at Keystone A.

There are also teams climbing the table this week and the best of these is Flying Horse who move up one place into fourth following the 8-1 drubbing of Hagg Bar C who find themselves anchored to the bottom of the table without a win.

Also rising up the table are Arthurlie Arrows who moved up two places into fifth as they took the points after a 5-4 result against Railway Inn, another team still to register a win this year.

In Division Two, The New Saints continue an impressive undefeated run as they came through with a 7-2 home triumph over Gryffe Inn.

Kelburne Cricket Club stay in second place after they too recorded a 7-2 win over bottom-placed Hagg Bar B.

Court Bar B team sit on the same points as the Cricketers after a hardfought 6-3 victory at home to Tartan Rose but a difference of four legs mean they sit in third place with the defeat dropping Tartan into eighth place in the table.

Inkerman Bowling Club remain in fourth place after a tense 5-4 win over Hazel Pirates with Inkerman showing some fighting spirit by coming back from being 4-1 down before securing the points.

Keystone B climb two places and go into fifth after a crushing 7-2 win at Flying Horse B.

The biggest gain of the week came from Pockets as they climb three places into seventh courtesy of a 6-3 away win at Railway Inn against the Black Cats, with the Cats dropping two league places into 11th after the result

The treble 20 took a hammering this week as 20 players recorded maximum scores with Dean Fitch of Pockets and Jamie Dempster of Flying Horse A scoring two each.

There were 20 games finished in 18 darts or less, with the best of these being 13-dart legs from Robert MacPhee of St Peter’s while Paul Hanvidge of Arthurlie Arrows had legs of 16, 17 and 18 darts in his singles win.

The highest finish of the week was a brilliant 167 checkout from Mark McKinnon of Court Bar B, a finish which is now the best for the season.

Next week is week six of league fixtures and in Division One, one of the teams without a win will gain a victory as Railway Inn play host to Hagg Bar C while in Division Two all eyes will be on the clash between Arthurlie Inns and Pockets who are only separated by a leg difference of three.
