Music marvels set to perform

-

Music from across the years will be at the heart of an exciting family concert that is taking place next weekend.

The Renfrewshire Carers Choir will be performing at the Wynd Centre, in Paisley, and all are welcome.

Claire Macdonald ,choir co-leader, said:“There’s going to be different eras.

“There’s going to be 50s, there’s going to be modern, pop, 90s – but it will be mostly pop.

“We’re doing The Beatles, ABBA, and big bands that everyone would know.”

The choir has a core membership of around a dozen, and is made up of both women and men of varying ages.

“I’m the youngest coming up for 25, and the oldest is 80.”

“The choir was set up five years ago, and has performed 50 times this year, and is always looking for new members.

“The more members we have, the better,”said Claire, who added that carers can get a great deal out of joining the choir. She said:“There is so much. “Physically, a lot of people have actually seen their symptoms get better with asthma and things like that.

“Singing does that, its opens the airways really nicely.

“But it’s also the support we get with mental health issues.

“When you belong to the choir you know there are going to be people there who are going to support you.

“And to be honest, the biggest thing is just respite from caring.

“They come once a week and get away from that for a while and just have a really good time singing. “It’s really good.” The concert is at the Wynd Centre on Saturday, November 10, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5 at the door or from Renfrewshire Carers Centre on 0141 887 3643.
