Students learn about leading
Last week I had the pleasure and privilege to form part of the Renfrewshire Council Chief Officer Public Protection Group.
This welcomed 17 managers to the inaugural Renfrewshire – Collaborative Leadership Programme Pilot.
The programme consists of first line managers across services as well as three students from the third sector with the aim of developing their thinking around leadership and collaboration.
Graeme Binning, senior fire officer, opened the event followed by keynote speaker, Renfrewshire Council chief executive Sandra Black.
Sandra took students through her career from an office junior in Stirling to leading Renfrewshire Council, outlining the challenges she faced and what skills she developed to rise to the top.
Graeme then presented on three separate incidents where there were failures and learning for services , encouraging students to think more strategically when delivering services, avoiding the pitfall of working in silos.
I look forward to seeing the students developing their leadership skills while creating and forging new relationships that will lead to improved delivery of services, benefitting our communities.
I will keep Express readers updated on their progress over the eightmonth programme.
