A chance for women to have their say

-

Renfrewshire women are invited to have their say on issues that are important to them at a discussion event.

The Scottish Women’s Convention (SWC) is coming to the Watermill Hotel, in Paisley,w for one of its regular events.

The SWC was established back in 2003 by the then Scottish Executive to make sure ordinary women had the chance to discuss issues relevant to them and make sure their voices are heard by policy and decision makers.

Chair of the SWC, Agnes Tolmie, said: “It is vital that, during this time of change for Scotland, the concerns of women are listened to by politicians.

“Women are losing their jobs, local services are being cut or withdrawn, and women are being asked to contribute more by filling gaps through volunteering.

“Women account for over 50 per cent of Scotland’s population, yet decisionmakers forget the impact on women when drafting policy.

“The Scottish Women’s Convention provides a vital role in ensuring local women have a voice and a link with political discussion.

“We hope to see as many local women at the Watermill as possible.”

The event is free and lunch will be provided.

It takes place on Tuesday, November 20, from 10.30am till 1pm. For more information on the event and the SWC, go to scottishwomensconvention.org
