New Tim Hortons is set to open in Paisley

-

Tim Hortons will open a latenight cafe in Paisley in just weeks.

The Canadian coffee giant is unveiling one of its first drive-thru restaurants in Europe on the site of the former Rootes motor factory.

Bosses are splashing out almost £1 million to create 25 jobs at the diner.

Kevin Hydes is the firm’s chief finance and commercial officer in the UK,

He said: “We are thrilled to be bringing our famous brewed coffee, French vanilla, donuts, Timbits and freshly- prepared food to Paisley.

“We have had a wonderful welcome from the people of Scotland since we first opened in Glasgow last year.

“This will be the first of many drive-thru restaurants to satisfy customers looking for great food and coffee on the go.”

Tim Hortons will open at St James Business Centre – the last remaining part of the former car plant.

Bosses insist jobs will go to locals, with more work during the construction phase.

They say the shop will benefit families and firms opposite Phoenix Retail Park.

Pedestrian crossings will be put in place to link the restaurant to nearby East Avenue.

Bosses had signalled plans for a round-the-clock cafe, providing breakfast, lunch and dinner – investing £700,000 in the project

But they have scaled back opening hours and will operate from 6am to midnight each day.

They insist there is demand for a coffee shop in the area – despite Starbucks operating from the nearby Phoenix Retail Park.

Costa Coffee will also open in the shopping precinct.

Tim Hortons opened its first store in Canada in 1964 – with eight out of 10 cups of coffee sold in the country bought from their stores.

It opened its first British shop in Glasgow last year and will move to the new Wallneuk Retail Park in Paisley in January.
