Man left uninjured but was badly shaken

An armed thug threatened and robbed a taxi driver who had just dropped his girlfriend off in Paisley.

The violent yob flashed a weapon at the cabbie in Leitchland Road in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It’s understood the driver, 57, picked up a woman in Johnstone and drove her to the Foxbar address, where the violent suspect appeared.

He demanded that the frightened driver hand over property during the sickening incident, which happened around 3.20am, before fleeing.

Fortunately, the man was uninjured but was left badly shaken by the horror ordeal.

He managed to escape the scene and raise the alarm.

Police have described the suspect as a white male who is 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build, with ginger hair and wearing a grey hooded top.

Detectives are now hunting the weapon-wielding brute and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Inspector Ross MacDonald, of Paisley CID, said: “A 57- year- old taxi driver was threatened by a male armed with a weapon in Leithchland Road.

“The driver had just dropped off a woman from the Johnstone area when he was approached by the suspect, who produced a weapon and threatened the driver.

“He demanded property from the driver before making off. The driver was left badly shaken by the incident but uninjured.

“This was despicable robbery on a man simply going about his work.

“The suspect is described as a white male, 5ft 8ins, stocky build, ginger hair and was wearing a grey hooded top.”

DI MacDonald said, given the time of the robbery, dog walkers may be able to help.

He added: “There may have been dog walkers or other taxi drivers in the area at the time who may have witnessed this incident.
