West College Scotland student Rachel Patrick left with more than just a diploma after her graduation ceremony in Paisley.
She also walked away with an engagement ring on her finger following a surprise proposal from boyfriend Josh Magennis on the doorstep of Paisley Abbey.
While Rachel was preparing to collect her HND in Makeup Artistry, Josh was quietly speaking to her dad Colin for his permission to ask his daughter to marry him.
Immediately after the ceremony, Josh went down on one knee in front of Rachel’s parents and classmates and popped the question.
Rachel, 21 who lives in Paisley with her now fiancé Josh, said:“The day was amazing from start to finish.
“Graduating was one of the proudest moments of my life and it will be a day I will never forget, now for two reasons!
“The proposal took me completely by surprise. We always joked about it but I never imagined Josh would pull something like that off, especially outside one of my favourite places.”
Marketing manager Josh, 22, who was also previously a West College Scotland student studying roofing, slating and tiling, said he had been planning the surprise proposal for weeks.
Since finishing her Makeup Artistry course at the college’s Paisley campus, Rachel is planning to continue her work as a self-employed makeup artist.
The couple haven’t set a date yet but the venue is a definite.
Rachel said:“We definitely want to get married in the abbey now as it is now such a special place to us.
“It would be amazing to come back to tie the knot in the same place where I said yes.”
West College Scotland Principal Liz Connolly, who presented Rachel with her diploma, spoke to the happy couple afterwards.
She said:“Our graduation ceremonies are always special occasions but this one was extraspecial. The whole college wishes Rachel and Josh so much happiness for their future together.”
