A degree of success
Big day for college graduates
The highlight of the year for students at Paisley’s West College Scotland took place at the town’s abbey.
The college held its graduation ceremony at the 12th century church, and the event was attended not only by happy graduates but by family members and dignitaries.
College principal Liz Connolly was piped into the event at Paisley Abbey before congratulating students on their achievements.
She told them: “I am looking forward to personally congratulating each and every one of you over the course of this ceremony.
“What, then, is today all about? Why are you here? Why is the platform party here?
“Why are your parents, grandparents, children, husbands, wives, partners and friends all here?
“Well, this ceremony is mainly about you and your achievements
“All achievements deserve to be recognised.
“When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon nearly 50 years ago, he planted a flag, recognising America’s achievement in getting him there. Today we’ll be presenting you with a certificate to recognise your achievements
“Achievements should be celebrated, individually and collectively.
“When a footballer scores a goal, he celebrates with his teammates and coaches.
“Here and afterwards, you will celebrate with your classmates, teachers families and friends.
“None of us achieves anything on our own. We all need help. And when we get it, we say thank you.
“So, this event is also about thanking your outstanding lecturers and other college staff who helped and supported you throughout your college journey.”
