Sheriff Seith Ireland warned the accused he faces a jail sentence with the possibility he will be placed on licence when he is eventually released from prison.
He said: “You have pleaded guilty to an extremely serious charge.
“Custody is almost inevitable here, given your record.
“There may be factors which cause you to remain as a risk to the public at large.”

The violent yob told the 19- year- old victim that he was carrying a weapon when he bust into her house at Graham Street.
He demanded that the frightened teen hand over cash during the sickening incident, which happened a ro u n d 8.40pm on Wednesday.
The suspect then fled the scene, taking a two- figure sum of cash as well as the teen’s phone and television set.
Fortunately, the victim was uninjured but was left badly shaken by the horror ordeal.
Detective Inspector Ross MacDonald, of Paisley CID, said: “A 19-year-old woman was threatened by a male in Graham Street in Johnstone on Wednesday night.
“He made it obvious to the victim the he was carrying a weapon and demanded that she hand over cash.
“He stole her iPhone, television and a two-figure sum of cash before making off.
“The victim was left badly shaken by the incident but uninjured.”
