Town hall celebrated in film, song and music
Everyone is invited along to say: “Ta Ta Toon Hall”.
Ta Ta Toon Hall is a celebration in film, music and song of the life and times of Paisley Town Hall as it prepares to go under wraps for three years for its £22 million transformation.
This will be the last chance to experience Paisley Town Hall in its current layout before it shuts on December 3.
The evening will feature music from Renfrew Burgh Band and the RockUs Choir, as well as newly-commissioned music from local pianist Alistair Iain Paterson.
There will be a commemorative poem from writer Jim Ferguson, graphics by Garry Byars of the Sunshine Gallery and film from local directors Falconer Houston and Kevin Cameron.
Among the many highlights will be the chance to see Paisley’s oldest film, which dates from 1913.
There is also the story of Paisley in Twentieth Century film and there will be a tribute to Paisley musician Gerry Rafferty.
BBC broadcaster and historian Vanessa Collingridge, who provided a narration for Falconer Houston’s film, said:“I’m delighted to help bring this important 1960s film into public awareness and to help tell the story of Paisley.
“It is beautifully shot and well acted by local schoolchildren.
“Paisley’s history is also known around the world and this film tells that story wonderfully.”
Tributes will be paid to the people, culture and history of this amazing part of Scotland.
Tickets for both events on Thursday, November 29, at 7pm are free and can be booked and collected from Paisley Town Hall or Paisley Arts Centre. Call 0300 300 1210.
