A paranoid boyfriend grabbed a kitchen knife and confronted his partner after becoming convinced she had a secret lover.

Neil Gibson, 31, burst into Rebecca Barr’s bedroom after arming himself with a kitchen blade.

He hoped to catch her with another man after she turfed him out.

During a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court, Gibson admitted making threats while clutching the weapon.

Prosecutor Frankie Morgan revealed the bully sparked a drunken row, which ended the 10-year relationship.

He said: “The accused and Rebecca Barr were engaged in an argument. “She asked him to leave. “He believed she was having an affair.

“At around 6.45pm, she heard shouting coming from outside.

“She looked out the window and observed the accused to be entering in to the common close, staggering towards the entrance.”

“He started shouting, phrases such as ‘f**k’ and ‘b*****d’.

“He entered the kitchen and began to rummage around the kitchen drawers – taking out a knife.

“He stated, ‘ I’m going to kill him, I’m going to murder him’.”

Gibson kicked off after the spat erupted at their home in Elderslie’s Gleniffer Crescent.

Ms Barr told him to leave the home they shared with their two children.

She called his step dad and police when he returned around 6.45pm on April 22.

Gibson headed for the bedroom in a bid to catch his former partner with another man.

Officers arrived and detained him while he ranted: “She’s been having an affair.”

Defence lawyer Rhona Lynch blamed her client’s behaviour on fallout from the split.

She said: “He was going through a very difficult time. It was the break-up of a 10-year relationship.

“Over the last year, the couple were going through difficulties, which drove them apart.

“He formed the impression that the complainer had been unfaithful to him and it was against that background that this offence was committed.”

Gibson had been charged with rushing at cops during the rammy.

But the claims were dropped when he admitted his guilt to the knife and threats rap.

The court heard the bully has since racked up a conviction for a similar offence and has been banned from contacting his ex.

Sheriff Lindsey Kooner ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.
