Northern Irishman Lee Hodson says the Saints squad have been champing at the bit to get back into league action after the international break.

When Saturday comes around, it will be two weeks since the side kicked a ball in anger and Hodson insists they can’t wait to get back out on the St Mirren Park pitch and try to put some much-needed points on the board.

A solid 1- 1 draw with fellow stragglers Dundee gave Oran Kearney’s men a foothold and now they are looking to build on that result as they prepare to welcome league high-flyers Hearts to Paisley.

Hodson told Express Sport : “After the performance against Dundee, you maybe just want to get next games to come thick and fast. “The lads are full of confidence. “There’s a buzz about the place. “I think we are heading in the right direction, so, hopefully, we can start picking up the points and climb up the table.

“We want to keep building the momentum going into the new year.”

Kearney gave the players some time off during the international shutdown.

But the team are back at their Ralston training base being put through their paces and on-loan Hodson believes the standard is getting better every day. He added: “We had a couple of days off. “It was nice to just get away from football to physically and mentally relax and take a break from it.

“The lads are refreshed and the last two trainings days have been fantastic.

“The lads are buzzing and raring to go into the game on Saturday.

“Looking back at Dundee, I think we finished really strongly. I think we could have gotten something more out of it.

“I think, looking back, there were two decisions that went against us that I thought were clear penalties.

“It was disappointing we didn’t get the result we deserved.

“We all know how well we played and the positives we can take out the game now we just want to take that into the game against Hearts.

“We have carried on the momentum of that game throughout training and now we need to keep going into the weekend and pick up the points we want against Hearts.”
