Community council tackle speeding drivers

-

Ralston Community Council heard very few crimes had been recorded in the area since its last meeting in October.

However, Paisley police officers at the November meeting were asked by community council member Ian Rae about the ongoing problem of Newtyle Road being used as a rat-run by speeding drivers.

Mr Rae said there had been no improvement in this matter, although PC Laura Wyllie said police had been in attendance regarding the issue.

Renfrewshire Councillor Jim Sharkey said speed bumps and signs could be used to reduce this problem.

Mr Sharkey also told the meeting that the damaged manhole cover at Ralston Sports Centre had been fixed.

He added that he had received complaints of lighting at the sports centre being on when they should be off and he would contact Renfrewshire Leisure for a response.

Mr Sharkey revealed that a feasibility study had been carried out into flooding between Glasgow and Renfrewshire at Selvieland Road and it was found that this would be too expensive.

Community council member Bill Gray asked about the blocked access to Honeybog Hill from Tylney Road.

Mr Sharkey said he had discussed this with the farmer who said a stile will be built at the entrance from Barshaw Place.

The meeting also heard that a hole left in the children’s play area at Ralston Community Centre following the removal of a pine tree had been filled in.

Community council member Simon Hall said there was a clean-up event at Barshaw Park in October which had quite a low attendance.

He has been advised that clean-up events have been postponed for the next few months and will start again in the new year.

Community council secretary Alison Scott that the community group’s bank balance stood at £2872.48.

This includes the annual administration grant of £747.

She added she had contacted Renfrewshire Council regarding invoices had still not been received for the community council’s meetings in September and October, and she was told this is due to computer problems.
