Woman accused of child neglect

-

A Paisley woman is facing trial accused of locking a fiveyear-old in a house alone for hours.

Charline Woods denies wi l f u l l y n e g l e c t i n g , abandoning and exposing the youngster to danger.

Prosecutors claim Woods, 35, treated the child “in a manner likely to cause her unnecessary suffering or injury to health” by locking the child in her flat in Underwood Road, Paisley, and leaving her unattended.

Court papers allege that the child, who can’t be named for legal reasons, was left alarmed and distressed at being locked in Woods’ property alone, and that the youngster was left “with access to electrical items, household items and a hammer, which she did take possession of and use to repeatedly strike the front door”.

It’s also claimed she placed the child at risk of injury by leaving her able to get hold of and use the hammer.

The case against Woods called at Paisley Sheriff Court and a plea of not guilty was entered on her behalf.

She faces a single charge under Section 12( 1) of the Children and Young Persons (Scotland) Act 1937 over the alleged incident, which is said to have taken place on July 28.

Sheriff Moira MacKenzie adjourned the case until February for a trial to take place, with a pre-trial hearing set for January.
