Brute admits FIFTH domestic abuse offence

Behave or you’re going to prison, sheriff tells thug

- Ron Moore

A drunken yob notched up his FIFTH domestic abuse offence after screaming threats at his pregnant girlfriend and preventing her from leaving their flat.

Lout Andrew Baillie, 32, was slammed by a sheriff for the latest outrage, which involved partner Natalie McFadyen and her sister.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard boozedup Baillie, from Todholm Crescent in Paisley, lost the plot with his partner on September 28 when he began shouting and bawling abuse and then stopped her from leaving the property.

He also turned hostile towards Ms McFadyen’s sister Leigh and her partner Robert, and during the same incident he kicked off at them too.

He appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to a charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear and alarm by shouting and swearing at Ms McFadyen and also stopping her from leaving the flat.

The brute also admitted a similar charge of behaving aggressively to her sister Ms Small and her partner.

The court had called for background reports as well as a restriction of liberty assessment prior to handing him his punishment.

Defence agent David Nicholson said Baillie was still with his partner, who is heavily pregnant, and accompanied him to court in a show of support.

He said: “His partner is present in court. She is heavily pregnant and could give birth at any time. He enjoys her support.

“He has admitted responsibilty for the offence. He understands how serious this matter is and would benefit from supervision to help him address his issues. He knows he has to change his lifestyle. He has a young family to support and is in full time work, involving shift work.”

The lawyer said custody or tagging Baillie would impact his ability to provide for his family or help his partner with the new baby, and he urged the court to consider handing him a communitybased disposal.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew said: “The reason I asked for a restriction of liberty assessment is of course because this is not the first of these offences.

“Not the second, not the third, not even the fourth, but the fifth.

“I am going to make it clear, the only reason you are not going to jail is because of the gap in offending.”

He added if Baillie continues to “behave in this fashion towards his partner or his family” he will be locked up.

The sheriff sentenced him to 12 months supervision with mandatory alcohol counselling and ordered he perform 200 hours of unpaid work.
