Paisley’s renowned music scene is playing its part in helping to put some of the world’s poorest children through school.

The Cave hosted its third Bands for Malawi event and it has been hailed a huge success after raising an amazing £1,541.

A variety of top acts took to the stage at the New Street venue to raise money for Classrooms for Malawi.

Over 10 hours of back- to- back music was played during the mini music festival with acts Cherry Red, Trunk Monkey and Wreckless all gracing the stage for a good cause.

Loud ‘n’ Proud’s Tommy McGrory said: “All the bands, The Cave staff and the people who paid in, bought raffles tickets and donated to the charity did a great job.

“No less than 11 acts performed and it was a real party atmosphere from 1pm till late.”

Since its inception four years ago, it has built or renovated a total of 136 classrooms, meaning that more than 10,880 children can now learn in a safe and secure environment.

Loyal regular Stephen McAllister inspired The Cave’s owners to launch the Bands for Malawi event two years ago after took a trip to Malawi to help at the schools.

He said: “I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the day, especially the bands and Cave staff.”
