Disabled victim has moved back in with parents after brutal attack

- David Campbell

A disabled man who was knocked unconscious in a violent Paisley nightclub attack has been forced to give up his home.

Thug Andrew Hutchison, 32, was jailed for 29 months at Paisley Sheriff Court this week for a savage assault on Paul Nickerson in the toilets of Viennas and Blur.

Paul, 31, who suffers from neurological condition dyspraxia, was left scarred for life during the unprovoked onslaught on September 16 last year.

His dad Gerry, 52, says Paul, who works as a road sweeper for Renfrewshire Council, had just started to gain his independence when“animal”Hutchison snatched it away.

He told the Express:“It was a really traumatic time for us. But the Procurator Fiscal and the police did a really good job and I want to thank them very much for the way they have conducted themselves.

“With his condition he doesn’t have the confidence to go out but he had just moved into his own flat and started to get his independence.

“He had just started to go out when he came up against this animal.

“He’s had to give up his flat now and moved back in with us. It’s a real shame really.

“He doesn’t go out now and he doesn’t speak to anyone or socialise.”

The attack left Paul covered in blood and he was rushed to hospital where he received five sutures to a wound on his chin.

The horror ordeal left him struggling physically and mentally.

Gerry added:“He works as a street cleaner and it took him six or seven weeks to go back after the attack. He has been traumatized by it.”

A witness described seeing Hutchison punching Paul and kicking his head as he lay helpless on the toilet floor at the New Street club.

The vile brute, who previously worked on an offshore fishing farm, will spend 29 months behind bars.

He was jailed for 21 months in 2014 after brandishing a bottle at his girlfriend and grabbing her by the hair in a masked raid at the Scotmid store .
