No time to mope: says Hodson

We now need to focus on winning on Wednesday

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren defender Lee Hodson insists the side can’t mope following Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Hamilton.

The full-back, on loan from Rangers, reckons it is simply a case of on to the next one for the Buddies as they prepare for Wednesday night’s trip to Easter Road to face Hibs.

And the 27-year-old called on his teammates not to be too downbeat, despite their 3-1 defeat – highlighting the bright points of an otherwise disappointing afternoon of action in Paisley.

Hodson said: “We are disappointed but I don’t think we can put our heads down because we have a big game on Wednesday.

“The main thing for us is to go over the game and then put it to one side.

“I think the difference simply was the fine margins on Saturday.

“We took our chances against Hearts, and we were defensively very strong from set pieces. “We didn’t manage that this time. “Despite that, I felt we created a lot of chances and I personally thought we were very comfortable in the game.

“Apart from their goals, I don’t think they caused us many problems.

“I thought the performance was there from us, but we just couldn’t score the goals.”

But Hodson conceded that the side’s defensive frailties were plain for all to see and even admitted he was at fault for the first goal.

He said: “I hold my hands up. I was marking Dougie Imrie for the goal.

“I was blocked by a marker and it was a move they had clearly worked on.”

Hodson added: “Conceding from two sloppy set pieces didn’t help, and the third goal just killed us after half time.

“But I thought the lads showed great character when we went down to 10 men.

“We kept pushing and we kept creating chances and Danny Mullen had a great effort where he hit the ball.

“Cody had a fantastic opportunity at the back post that he just couldn’t quite get to.

“We still created chances and there are still a lot of positives we can take from the game and we can work on these things.

“We have another big game on Wednesday now and we have to brush ourselves down, pick ourselves up and recover.”
