Armed robber demanded cigarettes
An armed robber is on the run after threatening a terrified petrol station worker with a hatchet.
The yob, who was wearing a high-vis vest, demanded that a cashier hand over cigarettes at the BP Garage in Paisley’s Greenock Road.
Police say the shopworker was left badly shaken by the ordeal, which happened just after 6.30am yesterday.
It’s understood a customer may have been in the store at the time of the raid and police
are keen to speak to this man.
Detectives are carrying out a review of CCTV from the area as they work to identify the violent brute and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Inspector Ross MacDonald, from Paisley CID, said: “Detectives are investigating an armed robbery at the BP garage in Greenock Road.
“A male suspect armed with a bladed implement threatened a male shop worker.
“The suspect demanded a quantity of cigarettes before making off.
“The suspect was wearing a high-vis vest and hooded top at the time.
“This was clearly a frightening experience for the shop worker, who was shaken but thankfully unhurt.”
The robber is white and was wearing a hooded top under the high-vis vest.
DI MacDonald also urged a man who was in the petrol station at the time come forward.
He added: “We believe another male was in the shop during the robbery who may be able to assist with our enquiries and I would ask him to get in touch.
