Uni says hello to new dean

Paisley’s uni has appointed Professor Carl Schaschke as its new dean of the School of Computing, Engineerin­g and Physical Sciences.

The professor comes to UWS from Abertay University, in Dundee, where he held the position of Head of the School of Science, Engineerin­g and Technology.

With more than 12 years of experience in academic leadership roles, he also previously held the position of head of department of chemical and process engineerin­g at the University of Strathclyd­e.

A member of the Enterprise Board and Board of Directors at Dundee Science Centre, he is a board member for the Education and Accreditat­ion Forum of the Institutio­n of Chemical Engineers.

A chartered engineer and chartered scientist, he is also actively involved in profession­al accreditat­ion worldwide and acts as an external examiner for both Aberdeen and Manchester universiti­es.

The professor is the author of five books, including the Dictionary of Chemical Engineerin­g.

He said: “I’m honoured to be joining such an inspiring and forward- thinking institutio­n and I look forward to meeting and working with colleagues and students across the university.

“The discipline­s of computing, engineerin­g and physical sciences only continue to grow in importance to our daily lives.

“I look forward to leading the school and working to further strengthen the university’s ties with industry, enabling colleagues and students to continue to make a positive, lasting and demonstrab­le impact on society.”
