Buddies divided over strip club

-

Buddies are split over proposals for a new strip club near the town.

The Cellar Bar’s owners have applied for a licence to relaunch the boozer with adult entertainment.

Some critics have raised concerns over the X-rated club while others have rallied behind the plans after flocking to the Express’Facebook page.

Laura Stewart worked in Club Tiger Lily, the town’s last lap dancing bar, and says there is nothing to fear.

She said:“Tigers was open 15 years as a lap dancing club. It was the only place you could go for a drink unil 3am without having to worry about all the a*******s in night clubs that can’t handle drink and want to fight. It was friendly and hassle free. No one is forcing any one to go. It is all legit and legal.”

Bosses want to overhaul the pub in Lady Lane and Renfrewshire Council has been asked to grant a late-night licence to allow adult dancing. If rubber-stamped, the club will open until 2am.

Darlene Fairley also worked at Club Tiger Lily and is in favour of the move. She said:“The one in Causeyside Street was there for 15 years. I was a barmaid in it for nearly four years and there was never a problem. Not like the stabbings and fights in other clubs.”

The Cellar Bar has lain empty for a number of months and is close to the town centre, the west end and university.

Jamie Gardner said:“Who honestly cares what it is? Less boarded up buildings around town is always a plus.”

The council’s licensing board will make the final decision on the project.

Lynz Moore insists the former pub might not be the best venue for a pole dancing club. She said:“The Cellar Bar is far too small to be a strip club.

“You couldn’t swing more than a few cats, let alone anything else.”

It is understood objections for the proposals have already been lodged by members of the public and councillors.

Theresa Alford Maitland is among those against granting the licence.

She said:“It’s not decent and this town has always taken pride in preventing sex shops and that type of thing.”
