Penalty that changed the whole game Renfrew boss vows to appeal ban

Renfrew co- boss Colin Clark insists he will appeal against any touchline ban after he was sent to the stand in his side’s 3- 1 loss to Auchinleck Talbot.

A furious Clark complained after the ref awarded the visiting side a highly questionable spot kick with the teams level at 1-1 and was promptly asked to leave the side of the pitch.

The ‘Frew man was unhappy when the official called his integrity in to dispute and will take the matter up with the league’s authorities.

Clark told Express Sport: “At 1-1, the ref has given them a penalty and that changes the whole game. Our defender has made a really strong tackle in the box and the ball clearly moves but the ref has given the penalty.

“I shouted to complain, in the same way you would about any decision, and the ref has sent me off saying I swore at him, which is just not true.

“It was really disappointing and even when I tried to speak to him after the game to tell him I never swore he just told me to leave his room.

“I will appeal any decision because it was ridiculous.”

The New Western Park side, who remain rooted at the bottom of the McBookie Premiership, went in at halftime with their noses in front after a penalty from Scott Morton.

“I think the ref had a really poor game overall. Even our penalty was outside the box and he has given it. He just didn’t give himself enough time to think about his decisions or consult with his linesman,” added a frustrated Clark.

“There are fans coming to watch the match and paying good money and he has spoiled it really.”

Clark says that despite the ref’s best efforts, his side gave a decent account of themselves against a top side.

“I think we tried to get at them and we were well in the game but the ref has ruined it really.”

Renfrew will take on Thornton Hibs at Starks Park on Saturday in the Scottish Junior Cup. ● Meanwhile, Neilston secured a solid 1-1 draw with second placed Rutherglen Glencairn in the Championship.

Derek Carson and Chris Cameron’s men took the lead through Scott Smith but the Farmer’s Boys were pegged back.
