Caring Co-op shoppers donate £14k to good causes

-

A fantastic £14,000 has been handed out to three local organisation thanks to shoppers at the Co-op.

Members of the Co-op membership scheme see the company donate one per cent of the money they spend on selected Co-op branded food and services to local causes.

Groups apply to benefit from the fund and staff help decide the final three. This year, the Co-op food stores in Kilbarchan and Bridge of Weir and Co-op Funeralcare in Johnstone chose to split the funding between Kilbarchan Pipe Band, St Vincent’s Hospice and Bridge of Weir Boys’ Brigade.

The Kilbarchan store held a fun day to hand over the cheques to each group with a bake sale raising money for CHAS as well as free tea and coffee and pizza tasting for customers to enjoy. Team leader Merissa Dickinson said:“It was a great day, everyone had a lot of fun. This is something we do every year and it’s always a good amount we hand over.

“We’d like to thank all our members for supporting the charities.”

St Vincent’s Hospice received £5401.73, Kilbarchan Pipe Band was given £4,511.04 and Bridge of Weir Boys’Brigade got a cheque for £4478.46.

The fundraising runs from November to the end of October each year.

The next three organisations chosen to receive funding next year are Kilbarchan Scouts, Brighter Bridge of Weir and the 2nd Girls Brigade of Bridge of Weir.
