Meet Mhairi PM’s total ignorance of Renfrewshire
Theresa May embarked on a tour around the UK last week to sell her doomed Brexit deal.
She very briefly stopped off in Renfrewshire, visiting the Bridge of Weir Leather Works.
The Prime Minister emailed me to notify me around an hour before she was scheduled to visit the local tannery.
The problem with this, however, is that I’m not the MP for Bridge of Weir.
It would appear Theresa May doesn’t know that Renfrewshire has two constituency MPs and has broken the ministerial code due to total ignorance by not informing my colleague Gavin Newlands MP.
Perhaps the next time the PM visits Renfrewshire, she could meet with some of my constituents who have been impacted by Universal Credit, or visit one of the food banks her policies are forcing people to use.
Instead, she darted in and out of Renfrewshire quicker than Usain Bolt.
It looks increasingly like Theresa May’s Brexit deal will not pass the meaningful vote hurdle in the House of Commons.
It is a deal that is bad for Scotland and will leave us all economically worse off.
Regardless of whether you voted to leave or if you voted to remain, I am sure that no one wants to see our country economically worse off.
It is time to extend article 50 and go back to the drawing board because this deal is a lame duck.
I will repeat again – Renfrewshire did not vote for Brexit, so I will continue to do what is best for the people of Renfrewshire by opposing this Tory Brexit shambles.
