Actors show support for Paisley’s PACE

The Paisley actor who played Methadone Mick in Still Game is backing the town’s PACE Youth Theatre as it tries to get more young people watching stage shows.

Bosses at PACE, which works with more than 1,000 young people a week, believe that seeing live, professional theatre is an important part of a young person’s creative education.

And its See 3 Challenge invites members to submit reviews for any three theatre productions before the end of June to receive an exclusive Love Theatre T-shirt, along with an entry into a prize draw for a chance to win £100 of theatre gift tokens.

Former PACE member Scott Reid, f rom Hawkhead, is best known for his role as Methadone Mick on the BBC comedy and has also had roles in Line of Duty and the UK tour of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.

He has recorded a short video in support of the campaign.

In it he says: “I think it’s vital for anyone who is an aspiring actor to get to the theatre as much as possible… it’s probably one of the easiest ways to get better.”

PACE says research has shown that attending theatre performances can improve social bonding, ra i s e a s p i rat i o n s, help children develop emotional intelligence, think imaginatively and give children the skills, curiosity and creativity they need to understand the complex world we live in.

It adds there is also evidence that theatregoing is a habit, which if instilled in young people early enough can last a lifetime.

The See 3 Challenge is also being supported by Brian Ferguson, a celebrated Scottish actor who has played roles with The Royal Shakespeare Company, The National Theatre, The Royal Court and The Globe theatre.

Entries for the See 3 Challenge can include reviews for any live performance – from national companies to local amat e u r dramatics/ community performances.

PACE re g u l a r l y arranges theatre trips for members, spanning different genres and age groups, and produces a guide to local and national productions for its members.
