Renfrew hotel aims to expand with 14 new four-star suites
Glynhill Hotel bosses have revealed plans to create more than a dozen new fourstar rooms.
Owners want to create 14 extra suites by transforming their basement car park.
Planners have backed proposals to increase accommodation at the centre.
Fraser Carlin, head of housing and planning for Renfrewshire Council, revealed the decision in a report to members. It stated: “Planning permission is sought for the formation of 14 additional bedrooms within the existing Glynhill Hotel.
“The bedrooms are to be created beneath the existing accommodation space on land currently used for car parking associated with the hotel.
“External alterations shall also be required to complete the enclosure of the car parking area.
“Rega rding noise and disturbance, there is potential for the development to generate some additional noise.
“However, Environmental Protection Ser vices have assessed the proposals from an environmental health perspective, and, while acknowledging that additional noise may arise from proposals, does not object to the development.”
The Renfrew hotel boasts a swimming pool, restaurant and around 100 en- suite bedrooms.
It is a popular wedding and awards venue in Paisley Road.
Dozens of staff serve guests at the major employer in the south end of town.
As previously reported in the Express, a Hilton hotel could be opening yards from Glasgow Airport – creating a slew of jobs.
The Cairn Group has applied for permission to build a five-storey hotel near the terminal.
Bosses say it would boast nearly 200 rooms and a bar and restaurant in Marchburn Drive.
It would be nestled between the existing Travelodge and Courtyard by Marriott businesses.
Local authority chiefs are mulling over the proposals set out in a report.
It stated: “This presents an opportunity to create a high-quality new building with a contemporary approach that is sympathetic in scale.
“The new hotel proposal is located on a site that already benefits from established infrastructure making it a sustainable location.
“The new hotel will also bring investment to the area and generate opportunities for local employment.
“Public transport accessibility to the site is also good, with bus stops located at Inchinnan Road and at the Glasgow Airport terminal building.”
A decision on the Hilton proposal is expected in the coming weeks.
