Ladies are jumping for joy at hospice’s knockout challenge

- KENNETH SPEIRS

A mother and daughter are taking a fun trip back to the 1970s in the name of a good cause.

Sixty- one- year- old Linda and Allyson Ralph, 31, have signed up for Accord Hospice’s very own version of TV classic It’s A Knockout.

The programme was an open-air game show, broadcast on the BBC, that saw teams dress up in oversized costumes and compete in various outrageous tasks.

And Paisley’s hospice will be hosting a wacky fundraiser based on it on March 31.

Linda said she is looking forward to taking part in the event at Paisley Rugby Club and raising money for the charity, which has a special place in her heart.

She explained: “My sister Margaret Jack was looked after here.

“She died nine years ago.

“They brought her in to get her pain under control – she had oesophageal cancer – but she didn’t survive for long.

“She was from Renfrew too. She was 60 when she died.”

The charity fundraiser is a real family affair for Linda and Allyson.

Linda added: “Margaret ’ s daughter Kirsty and two of her grandchildren Mark and Nicola are taking part in the event too.

“We’ve done a lot of things to support the hospice.

“We’ve done the Midnight Walk, we’ve done the Bubble Rush.

“It’s because it’s local and it’s a good cause.”

It’s A Knockout will perhaps be the most active event Linda and Allyson have taken part in for Accord, although they don’t really know what it will involve.

“We’ll find out.

“We’ve got eight on our team for sure and we think we might be getting up to 10.

“We’ll take it as its comes. I’m very competitive,” added Linda.

Allyson is too young to have seen It’s a Knockout on TV, but has been doing some research.

“I’ve seen a few of the photos they’ve put on Facebook of the costumes and things.

“I don’t really need to look at much more, to be honest.” she said.

Linda says it is very important to have fun when raising money for charity.

“If everything is serious, then what’s the point?” she said.

“And, Accord is a really good place, it does a lot of good.”

The It’s a Knockout event is sold out.
