Drunken pest dodges jail stint

-

A drunken pest who repeatedly showed up at his ex- girlfriend’s home, has been told by a sheriff to ‘dry out.’

Steven Cardy, 51, was banged up for breaching special conditions of bail preventing him from contacting or approaching Vicky Muir at her home in the town’s Springbank Terrace.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Cardy, blighted by a long-term alcohol addiction, refused to accede to the court’s instruction that he steer clear of Ms Muir.

Instead he brazenly defied conditions of his release by wandering into Ms Muir’s home and sitting down on the couch.

He also broke his bail again after drinking at a pal’s house when he phoned her.

And previously he phoned her from the A&E at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital warning he was coming round to see her.

He had also burst into her house and refused to leave despite being asked by her.

Cardy, who was recently released from jail, appeared for sentencing before Sheriff Frances McCartney, after the court had obtained background reports prior to sentencing.

Defence agent Kevin Brady said: “Your ladyship dealt with him recently and he served a short custodial sentence.

“Your ladyship was considered placing him on a Community Payback Order once that sentence was over. It would be an order with a conduct requirement that he attend alcohol counselling.

“He would also seek assistance from the Up To You (countering domestic abuse) programme.

“He wishes to reside with his partner and is keen to address the problems he has.”

The lawyer added Cardy was hopeful of a reconciliation with Ms Muir, with whom he had shared a 17-year relationship.

Ho w e v e r, Sh e r i f f Mc Ca r t n e y sought assurances from his expartner Ms Muir before agreeing to remove his bail conditions.

She also warned him to shape up telling him: “I am going to place you on a Community Payback Order for 18 months of supervision by the local authority during that time.

“There will be a conduct requirement for you to attend alcohol counselling and group therapy as required.

“This will be as an alternative to custody.”

Cardy will appear at court on March 29.
