Ladies speak out

-

The latest Renfrew Ladies’Speakers Club meeting started with a warm welcome from Marion Henderson, president, and the thought from Cate Donaldson was that fashion is both to adorn and to be practical.

Chairman for the evening was Joan Milburn, who introduced the speakers and the variety of their themes.

Reminiscing Fashion through the Decades was Marion Henderson’s title.

Audience members listened intently, and there were ripples of laughter. Everyone took part in evaluating the speech and made appreciative comments, together with giving advice.

“This participation is useful for both the speaker and the audience members,”said Sheina Ross, as general evaluator.

Margaret Cowie grabbed everyone’s attention as she spoke about To Detox or not to Detox.

She covered many aspects of this practice and concluded that detox does not rid us of toxins but our money.

Dorothy Hamilton had fun recalling the days when Granny wore a hat, and a hairnet. More seriously, she recalled, when ladieswear in the office did NOT include trousers.

She contrasted this with today’s torn jeans, tattoos and rings in noses and navels.

Myra Hunter and Jess Cross found much to praise in the choice of subjects and the delivery of the ideas.

Pat Thompson read a poem, followed by Una Wilkinson, as topics chairman, asking for mini speeches on a variety of subjects.

The next meeting will be a seminar on Speech Evaluation, on February 21, run by Graham McLachlan, past national president of the Association of Speakers’ Clubs.

Renfrew Ladies’ Speakers’Club says taking part is guaranteed to build confidence.
