‘Ton aim to pile on the misery

-

Neilston manager Derek Carson feels sorry for winless Larkhall but insists he is out to compound their misery this afternoon.

The Gasworks Park side currently prop up the Championship table with zero wins from the first 18 games of the season.

One draw over that time leaves them with a solitary point and no hope of avoiding the drop unless they can somehow muster a monumental turnaround.

Carson will welcome former Ross County striker Derek Holmes’ side to the Brig O’Lea – all the while looking to rub salt into the visitors’ wounds.

He told Express Sport: “Larkhall Thistle have always been a good club and will forever be a big name in junior football because of their history.

“It is tough to see a side going through what they are because you know it can’t be easy and it can’t be nice.

“They have had a change in management just before the season and they lost a lot of players so it has been an uphill battle all season long.

“They are really struggling but we can’t be the side that gives them something to rally around.

“They drew with Whitletts Victoria 0-0 recently and that was their first point, which I was surprised about.

“I see Whitletts as a really strong team so the fact that they took something off of them shows they are improving as the weeks go on.

“We need to make sure that we start the game on the front foot and really take it to them.

“The longer the game goes on without a goal gives them something to fight for, so we need to get the upper hand as quick as we can.”
