Mothercare will close within weeks
The Mothercare store in Paisley’s Causeyside Street is set to close in the coming weeks, the retailer has confirmed.
In July of last year, fears grew for jobs in Paisley after the struggling retailer announced it would be closing 60 stores by June 2019.
Mothercare confirmed to the Paisley Daily Express last night the store is set to close after rumours circulated on social media it would soon cease trading.
The chain revealed last summer its subsidiar y Children’s World was placed into administration, with 13 of its 22 stores transferred to Mothercare.
The company had previously said it was planning to close 50 stores by 2019 but was forced to look at deeper cuts following the collapse of their Children’s World division.
Chief executive Mark Newton-Jones said at the time: “After a very challenging period for our business, we have now finalised arrangements to restructure and refinance the group, ensuring that the transformation of the Mothercare brand we started four years ago can now be completed.
“Mothercare is a great British brand with over 50 years of heritage and we now have the financing in place to take it forward for many more years to come.
“We hav e seen an unprecedented period for UK retail and we have not been alone in facing a number of strong headwinds.
“I’m pleased to say however, that we are now in a position to re-focus on our customers and improve the Mothercare brand both in the UK and across the globe.
“We have exciting plans ahead to revitalise the brand through enhancing our product ranges.”
