Business A wonderful way to enjoy a feast from the east

-

This week we speak to Japan Street Food which opened in Renfrew Road, Paisley, 18 months ago. Since then customers from Renfrewshire and beyond have developed a taste for food from the far east. Japan Street Food has expanded from a takeaway to include a sit-in restaurant which is due to expand in the next few months.

What does your business do?

Japan Street Food is a Japanese restaurant and takeaway, specialising in Japanese staple hot food dishes and a range of sushi selection.

What are you most proud of when it comes to your company?

Our innovative and unique take on Japanese popular street and other dishes, providing a fresh Japanese food experience to carry out or dine in.

What do you find most enjoyable in day-to-day business life?

The customer and our visitors are the force of the business. We love meeting and introducing people to new flavours and sensations.

We really enjoy that there are so many great people willing to try something new, and every time someone steps through our door we meet them as a part of the family.

What are your ambitions for the future?

This place opened with a goal to bring food from around the world to more people and to give them a chance to experience it without travelling far and eat it as it’s actually eaten in its country of origin.

We will have expansion ahead in spring and summer time. We are planning to open the doors to our restaurant with a sitting area of approximately 30 covers in the same spot where we are located in Paisley at the moment.

How has the business changed over the years?

We have been in the business just over a year and half now and we have really seen our community grow rapidly. We had expanded our initially established takeaway with no seats to a 12-seat dine-in experience.

We know there’s potential to expand. Meanwhile we have made a lot of progress with our participation in Renfrewshire life and being one of the attractions bringing more people to this lovely town.

What are your top three priorities?

RENFREWSHIRE GOES TO WORK

The freshness and good quality of the food served; excellent customer service; and having local support. Can you offer three tips to new-start businesses?

Look for a great idea to bring to the world and create it; work hard and be resilient. Renfrewshire Council offers a range of start-up help for young companies to develop the business, so take advantage of that.

Why is Renfrewshire a great place to run a business?

It’s a great place because of the people and the atmosphere they bring. There is good infrastructures for parking and lots of entertainment to keep people entertainment. It’s an attractive tourist place.

Has anything weird or wonderful happened in your working life?

This organisation brings a lot of experiences to many people’s lives and everyone is always discovering new skills and strengths to improve our teamwork.

What is the main thing you have learned since being involved in the business?

Always be kind and understanding to your customer and enjoy everyday ups and downs as a part of the bigger journey.
