Thug bit his girlfriend on the nose

-

A takeaway delivery driver will be assessed by psychiatrists after he sunk his teeth into his girlfriend’s nose.

James Hainey, 27, will undergo a doctor’s assessment before he is sentenced for biting Laura McDonald.

He bit her face after they spent the night dropping off meals.

Hainey admitted assault during a hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Sheriff David Pender called for checks after hearing he was suffering from mental health issues.

He insisted some of his problems could have been exacerbated by cocaine use.

Prosecutor Keri Marshall previously told how he turned up in the middle of the night to confront his victim after she spoke about ending the relationship.

She said:“He went into the bedroom where he began to pack his belongings.

“He became aggressive and there was an argument. He began to struggle with Ms McDonald.

“He took hold of her and bit her on the nose. She went to the bedroom to clean her injury.

“She contacted police and appeared upset on the call.

“On hanging up, he told her to contact police and cancel their attendance. She did do that, but police advised they would attend anyway.

“He became angry and told her not to answer the door.

“Officers arrived and observed her to have fresh injuries to her nose, which was still bleeding.”

The couple had been making deliveries for a local takeaway just hours before the attack in Paisley’s Neilston Road.

They headed for a pub after work.

Ms McDonald decided to go home, while he told her he was going to his mum’s.

But he turned up at her door around 3am on December 28.

Ms McDonald was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital to have the wound cleaned and dressed.

Defence lawyer Amy Spencer insisted her client had been struggling with mental health issues.

Hainey, of Broomlands Street, Paisley, has been released on bail for the examination to take place.

He has been placed on a daily 7pm to 7am curfew.
