Buddies share happy memories of town hall
People have been sharing their memories of Paisley Town Hall.
The historic venue closed at the end of last year for a major three-year refurbishment, and Buddies were asked to let leisure bosses know how it had affected their lives for the better.
And people have revealed all sorts of memories on the website of Renfrewshire Leisure, which runs the town hall for Renfrewshire Council.
Doreen Briggs said:“I remember when I was young, singing in the Tannahill Choir in Paisley Town Hall.
“We used to practice in the museum. It would be around the late 1950s. It was a yearly event.”
And Jennifer McKenzie has so many memories of her childhood and adulthood.
“The main ones I automatically think of are the annual Renfrew district schools bands and orchestras playing their annual concert here.,”she wrote.
“It was such a huge and important event for us all with schoolchildren, friends and families from all over Renfrew district coming together to watch the concert.
“Months of practice and the build up to the concerts was enormous and such a special event to be a part of for so many years.”
For Victor Kelly the memories are more recent.
“When my wife became ill and had to be taken into care I found myself in total isolation,”he wrote.
“On seeing a tea dance advertised in the Paisley Express – and as my wife and I loved dancing as that is how we met a long number of years ago – I ventured along to give it a try.
“I asked ladies for a dance over the course of that afternoon and I gained new confidence as a result.”
Mrs A James remembers a happy occasion.
“My husband and I held our wedding reception in the Loggia Suite on Saturday June 5, 1971.
“This means that when Paisley Town Hall re-opens in 2021 we will be celebrating our golden wedding anniversary.”
