Take part in Kiltwalk to boost Renfrewshire’s foodbank charity

-

Renfrewshire Foodbank is looking for supporters for this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk.

The event will take place on Sunday, April 28, and foodbank manager Elizabeth Alexander is calling for people to back the service.

Every walker can select the charity they wish to donate to and the Hunter Foundation has pledged to add 40 per cent on top of the money raised by kiltwalkers for their chosen cause.

If a walker raises £100, that figure will be bumped up to £140.

Demand on the vital foodbank is expected to continue to grow following the full rollout of Universal Credit in Renfrewshire in September last year.

On average across the country there has been a hike in foodbank use of around 52 per cent – which was expected to be no different in the Paisley.

As a result, the foodbank is continually appealing for cash and food donations.

Elizabeth has urged Express readers to consider helping the foodbank.

She said: “We are trying to raise more funds because we have to be here.

“People are going to need us and we need to make sure we are here to provide them with food.

“So many people come who actually haven’t eaten and if we weren’t able to give them food, they wouldn’t be able to eat at all.

“It’s absolutely vital.”

Those taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk can choose between the Mighty Stride (23 mile s) the Big Stroll (15 miles) or the Wee Wander (six miles).
