Buddies back Brexit Article 50 petition

-

Almost 5,000 people in the north of Paisley have joined the campaign calling for Article 50 to revoked.

And a Paisley politician is urging even more Buddies to sign the anti- Brexit petition.

Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said Theresa May’s disastrous handling of the process is forcing even more voters to call for a halt to the withdrawal.

So far 4,600 people in his constituency have signed, joining more than 3.4 million others across the UK, who want to put a stop to leaving the EU.

He said: “I am fully supportive of the petition and I encourage everyone to add their names.

“Theresa May’s handling of Brexit has been an absolute disaster, but with all of the false promises sold to the public in 2016, it was always going to be.

“The fact that now more than three million people have signed the petition speaks volumes.

“It clearly shows that the public does not want to go through with Brexit.

“We cannot be forced into a false choice between Theresa May’s deal and no deal, as either would be disastrous for Scotland, and Renfrewshire’s, economy.

“If the House of Commons cannot agree a way forward then Article 50 must be revoked.

“Scotland did not vote for Brexit and we should not be dragged out of the European Union against our will.

“People in my constituency and across Scotland are right l y furious, they deserve to be heard.”

In 2016, Renfrewshire voted by 64.8 per cent to Remain in the European Union, higher than the Scottish average of 62 per cent.
