New bin service in Erskine

-

Residents in Erskine’s Park Mains, Bargarran, Rashielee and North Barr are getting a new council recycling service at the end of the month.

Recycling will now be split between two green and blue bins/sacks rather than just blue.

The green bin/sack is for plastics, cans, cartons and glass, and the blue bin/sack is for paper, card and cardboard only.

This means the new collection schedule will be as follows:

 Grey bin/sack — every two weeks (no change)

 Green bin/sack — every four weeks (change)

 Blue bin/sack — every four weeks (change)

 Green food caddy — every week (no change)

The green and blue bins/ sacks will be collected on alternate fortnights, meaning people will still have at least one bin collected every week.

Renfrewshire Council says this allows workers to collect a better quality of material, as well as reducing the cost of disposing waste to landfill.

For health and safety reasons, glass cannot go into sacks. There are four recycling banks in Erskine where this should be taken — Mains Drive shops, Bridgewater Shopping Centre, Barwood Park and Barrhill Road Recycling Centre.

Before the new bin/sack is delivered, people will be sent a guide and collection calendar that will outline the service, as well as stickers to place on the bin that illustrate what should and should not go in each one.

Most of Renfrewshire moved to the new service in December 2018, but the council says parts of Erskine need a more bespoke approach which is why the service is being introduced now.
